How long will the quarry operate?

When will operations take place?

The expanded mine would operate seven days a week, 24 hours a day, year-round. Blasting will be permitted from 9 am–4 pm daily. Currently, quarrying operations occur M-F between the hours of 7 am–5 pm and product hauling occurs Sun-Sat between the hours of 7 am–5 pm.

What is the limestone used for?

The limestone will be sold by RMR to construction businesses on the Front Range with limited Western Slope uses.

How does it get there?

RMR plans to develop an expanded access route along the Transfer Trail Road, hauling limestone in trucks from the mine to a rail loadout facility next to the Colorado River at Highway 6 and Devereux Road.

How many trucks a day will be driving through Glenwood Springs?

As many as 450 round-trip trucks a day are proposed in RMR’s application with the Bureau of Land Management.

How many railroad cars will this fill?

Up to 50,000 railroad freight cars a year, which is 137 rail cars per day/ 5.7 per hour.

How will the trains cars be loaded?

Train engines will idle 24-hours-a-day in the middle of the City next to the Colorado River, Two Rivers Park, and downtown, slowly moving one car forward at a time to be filled.
